Oh what a treat! The Hunsakers and Hubbles came over on Monday night and they allowed us to tag along. Both Cheyenne and Fedora cooked up some sweet sweet love, also known as Fry Bread, or Navajo Tacos.

The house was somewhat noisy with all the kids, but once the food was out and served, it was like the inside of a padded room. (not that I know what that sounds like, I am just imagining)

Well everyone loved them and thanks to everyone for all the help and wonderful dinner.

Jonas Takes 4th at Stake Derby

After coming in 2nd place in our ward derby, Jonas was invited to participate in the stake derby. This is where the top 3 from each ward compete against each other at night. It was quite the to do. The people in charge had everything set up nice. The announcers were funny at mimicing the NASCAR announcers.

The kids had a blast. At the end of the night there was a 3 way tie for 2nd place which led to another race off. After the 1st race, Jonas’ car had a blow out and lost a wheel. We tried to put it back together, but, let’s just say, we limped our way down. Great job Jonas!

2nd Place. Not too Shaby.

Well today was the day. Our expectations were low so perhaps that is why we are still so shocked. It was fun to see the boys having so much fun. Everyone that helped put it on should be commended for all their work. Jonas’ car that he chose to race came in 2nd place after a 2 way tie for 1st place. They had a best out of 3 race-off and Ethan Schuab handed Jonas the defeat. The top 3 have been invited back tonight for the Stake Championship. Jonas does not think he will so he chosen not to go. We will see.

It was more fun for me to see Jaime get worked up. She did not ever really want to go today, but by then end of the meet, it was Jaime saying things like, “why don’t you go put some more graphite on.”

Here are some photos from the “derby”. A video (although not a very good one) will be up later tonight.

Pinewood Derby Cars Are All Done!

Pine Wood Derby 09So I think I am having some sort of repressed memories coming back. For some reason I was dreading the Pine Wood Derby. This is our first year as parents involved with this fine tradition. As a kid I remember doing the “derby” once or twice but that we never placed very well or had a very unique car. Not that my parents did not try; to the contrary, I remember one year having the engineers at my Grandpa and Grandma’s shop work on said car. We still did not win….

Well I have gotten into it this year. I am not one of those win at all cost parents, but I really had fun this year helping build the cars. Thank goodness for the precut hobby store bought model and for Steve Alger helping with the cuts on the pencil car. With out this we would have been relegated to the triangle cut, slice of cheese mobile.

This year we have 2 entries. The 1st is the traditional fast type car. It is perfectly weighted and ready to go. The other one is the pencil car. Not so fast, but pretty clever looking.

I will post the updated results after the competition tomorrow. Stay tuned.

After trying his hand at soccer, Carson wanted to try baseball. He was drafted onto the power house team, Florida Seminoles. So far he is doing really well and enjoying playing with his friends. I must admit that I really enjoy watching my boys have fun. Here are some photos from practice today that I was able to go to.

Oh Boys!

Up to know our boys have been fairly conservative. They have not been prone to jumping from roofs or doing flips from beds or things of that nature. I think this is all starting to change. Last night there was a ruckus on the side yard. I went over to investigate; it was Carson. He had climbed up to the side yard fence, walked across the top of the fence and was shooting baskets.

Our basketball hoop has been relegated to the side yard and is unplayable till we move it. The boys, not willing to be stymied by inconvenience, found a way to play. Anyone want to put some bets down on how soon a broken arm or leg will visit the Votaw’s home?

What a view! Boating in February 2009

What a view! Boating in February 2009

So here it is, February 23rd of 2009 and we went to the lake today. What a glorious state we live in. It has been unusually warm here this week with highs near 85 or so. So what can we do…..Oh I know, take the boat to the lake. Luckily enough we have some very good friends that want to buy a boat and so being the good friends that we are we offered to take them up to get their interest up even more. Nothing like having some boating buddies. This was a total sacrfice for us as we don’t noramlly enjoy going to the lake….yea right!

We had a great time just tooling around the lake. The water was way too cold still to get in, but we drove around and then had a nice dinner down the hill a bit. Thanks to the Golba’s for coming along.
